How To Prepare For A Hurricane

3A hurricane is not something you should be unprepared for, especially if you were warned before it hits, you should always have disaster provisions and evacuation plans at hand in case of any emergency. It’s always better to be safe than sorry and in the situation of a hurricane you can say it’s better to be alive than sorry, which is what happens to a lot of persons when a hurricane hits, so here are a few tips on how to prepare for a hurricane.

It’s simple really; all you have to do is ensure that you always have flashlights along with batteries stocked in your emergency kit, the light is usually the first to go and during a natural disaster it’s dangerous to be in the dark, especially if light posts are down.  Ideally you should be healthy, and in shape, as many overweight people can have a hard time during a disaster.  At creative bioscience you can find supplements that help people with weight problems. There is also the hazard of electric wires falling into water and making the situation worse because then there is the chance of people being electrocuted.

Bottled water to last for at least 7 days is extremely necessary as utilities are generally disconnected during a hurricane and water is one of the most essential needs of the human body,  sometimes after the hurricane has pasted  it takes weeks for the water to be reconnected and by then a lot of persons become very dehydrated.

You should also stack up on the tin products, such as sardines, peas, beans and soups, anything that is not perishable and that can be kept for months without going bad. The main reason for stacking up on tin goods is that without electricity a cooler or refrigerator becomes useless and then your food would quickly become spoilt, roads may be blocked and no stores would be open for you to buy additional products so you would end up starving.

Other essential stuff for your hurricane survival kit would be a box of match for catching a fire if needed, a blanket, extra cash, diapers, books, formula for baby, battery powered radio, charged cell phone, medications, toiletries, sleeping bags, and games, all of which should be properly stored where they would not receive any damage.

What Is Proper Nutrition For Health?

Good nutrition is important for staying healthy, for preventing disease and for maintaining a healthy body weight. Today it can be difficult and confusing to choose from the hundreds of different diets and eating plans. If you want to stay fit and healthy, what is proper nutrition for health?

Eat Regular Meals

Make sure you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. Do not skip meals and do not replace meals with snacks. Regular meals keep your blood sugar in balance and speed up your metabolism. A balanced blood sugar means that you do not crave unhealthy snacks.

Include a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables in your daily diet. Eat a minimum of five servings of vegetables and fruit every day. Try to eat seasonal fruits and fresh or cooked vegetables as a part of your daily meals. Vegetables and fruit give you vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, but they are usually low in calories.

Fiber and Protein

Eat enough fiber. Whole grains, including brown rice, whole wheat bread, high-fiber cereals and even oatmeal give you carbohydrates in a healthy form. If you exercise a lot, it is important to eat enough carbohydrates for energy. Your digestion needs fiber to work, and fiber can also reduce the risk of many diseases.

Eat low-fat protein and make sure to include a lot of protein from vegetable sources. You can get low-fat protein from dairy products, soy, fish and lean meats including chicken. Protein is important for health, and it is a good idea to use a variety of protein sources.

Staying hydrated is important for health, too. Many soft drinks advertised as “low calorie” are full of artificial sweeteners that do not provide any nutritional value, but have many adverse effects on your health. Drink fruit juices, water or herb teas throughout the day.

National Weather Service Provides Weather Warnings For US Communities

1The National Weather Service is a division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) operated by the US Department of Commerce and responsible for providing weather warnings when sever weather is headed toward communities in the United States.  Their mission is to provide data concerning weather, water and climate to protect property and life in order to enhance the national economy.  As a part of this mission, they provide forecasts and weather warnings to communities where individuals need to take cover.

The National Weather Service offers several levels of advisories for citizens.  A storm or weather watch means that conditions are likely to cause the predicted action to happen.  Weather warnings mean that the action is actually happening and residents should take cover immediately.  For example, when a severe thunderstorm is taking place, the service issues a thunderstorm warning.  In addition, if the upper level wind currents in the storm have the potential for a tornado to develop, the NWS might also issue a tornado watch.  If a tornado is sited in the area, a tornado warning is issued for communities in the storm’s path.  In recent years, the NWS has also added a third level, the advisory, which indicates conditions more severe than a storm watch but less severe than the storm warning.

In years past, citizens relied primarily on radio and television to be advised of severe weather in their communities.  However, with increasing access to portable devices such as cell phones that offer access directly to NOAA and the NWS, citizens may log directly onto these sites for the most up to date information.

When the NWS issues a weather warning locals should be prepared to move to a safe area.  In tornado prone areas, many homeowners are installing a safe room.  With hurricanes, the best action may be to move inland out of the path of the storm.

Emergency Food, What Do You Need?

The plethora of disasters the can affect people can range from anything from a flash flood to a hurricane, but what kind of food one has can make a big difference. As with the majority of disasters that can hit people one can safely assume that when disaster strikes, there will be no electricity at all. This is an important piece of information to remember, because what food to have for a emergency can be directly related to this.

So if there is no electricity in the home, that would mean that items like a refrigerator, freezer and other electrical items that contain food would not be functional. So, what kind of food should somebody look for can range from a variety of canned food to items that do not really have a shelf life. Canned food can last a long time and is very useful, because a non-electric can opener can open it and it can be cooked on a propane burner or other non-electrical device.

Also, snacks like canned nuts, candy bars or popcorn can also be handy to have around because they generally do not need to be refrigerated in any way.  If you already struggle with weight loss, you can try and find healthy snacks that will last longer. One important thing to keep in mind is that seasonings like salt, pepper and others can be used to spice up the canned food for that added flavor. Other foods that do not really have a shelf life can be anything from bags of rice to sugar, soy beans and even some pastas.

Besides stuff that folks can consume during an emergency situation, keep in mind that bottled water would be the optimum choice for a drink. People could always go with water from the faucet, but that may not be as safe as a case of bottled water will be. In the end, the best kinds of food to keep around during an emergency should be items without an dated shelf life, most canned food and even some snacks.
